Caro progetto GNU, questi sono i nostri auguri per il tuo 30esimo compleanno.

GNU è il nome di un progetto, di un sistema operativo, il giocoso acronimo ricorsivo che sta per “GNU’s Not Unix”, ma non solo: GNU è una realizzazione pratica e un simbolo.

Una realizzazione pratica su cui ci siamo basati in moltissimi per programmare altro software libero, o per introdurre persone ad un rapporto etico e solidale con il computer.

Un rapporto che educa tutte le persone al rispetto della propria libertà privata senza svenderla inconsapevolmente, e anche al rispetto della libertà degli altri quando doniamo loro un programma o, da programmatori, ne scriviamo uno nuovo.

Un aspetto per cui ci piace infatti ringraziare il progetto GNU è quello di aver esplicitato il valore della libertà, che all’inizio esisteva, nel software (come in tutti gli altri campi), ma non avevamo capito quanto fosse preziosa finché qualcuno non ha cominciato a privarcene.
Essendo appunto reale, GNU è anche un importante simbolo di speranza che diventa certezza. La speranza che tutti insieme si può fare qualcosa di grande, dimostrando coi fatti che nella condivisione delle idee ci si arricchisce reciprocamente.

Ed è un messaggio così importante per noi oggi, che trasforma ogni programmatore di software libero da un “semplice programmatore smanettone” ad un “entusiasta pioniere della libertà”, un eroe che partecipa alla realizzazione di un mondo più evoluto: premuroso, onesto, trasparente, rispettoso, colto, responsabile.

E questo accade oggi non solo nel software libero, ma in svariati settori economici con l’affermarsi dell’economia etica e solidale che prende spunto e guarda con molto interesse al software libero e alle sue buone pratiche che hanno dato vita ad un ecosistema economico più che sostenibile.
Prima di chiudere ringraziamo il tuo fondatore, Richard Matthew Stallman che nel 1983 a dato il via a tutto ciò e ad oggi continua ad impiegare tante energie nel progetto.

Grazie Richard, per essere rimasto una persona semplice, trasparente, disposta all’ascolto e per aver mantenuto saldo il timone verso la meta che ti sei prefisso fin dall’inizio. Siamo onorati di conoscerti e confidiamo che le nostre strade si incontreranno di nuovo presto.

Ci prepariamo a progettare nuove strade nel nostro territorio anche in collaborazione con il Comune di Fabriano che ha ritenuto talmente importante la tematica da prevedere uno specifico assessorato al Software Libero nella propria giunta.

Dear GNU project, these are our best wishes for your 30th birthday.

GNU is many different things. It’s the name of a project, an operating system, a funny recursive acronym for “GNU’s Not Unix” and much more besides: GNU is a practical project, but also a symbol.

In order to programme more free software and ensure people use the computer in an ethical and responsible way, we and many others have based our purpose on this practical project.

People should have respect for their personal and others’ freedom, trying not to accidentally depreciate it when we offer a programme or write a new one as programmers.

We would like to thank the GNU project especially for its interest in enhancing the value of freedom; once, it existed in the software (as well as in every other fields), but today we have understood its importance just when they started to take it away from us.
GNU is an important symbol of hope, and thanks to the fact that this project is real, it gives a guarantee of success. Thus, we can hope for great results all together, by showing that sharing ideas leads to a mutual and personal enrichment.

Nowadays, this is a strong and important message for free software programmers, because they can turn from “simple hackers” to “enthusiastic pioneers of freedom”, heroes who take part to the creation of a more advanced, attentive, honest, clear, respectful, educated and responsible world.

This takes place not only in the free software, but also in different economic fields. The solidarity-based economy meets with considerable success, and takes its cue from the free software and its good practice which has created a sustainable economic ecosystem.
First of all, we would like to thank GNU’s founder, Richard Matthew Stallman, who started everything in 1983 and is still giving his energy to the project.

Thank you Richard for still being a down-to-earth person, ready to listen, for always being straight to the goal you set from the very beginning. We are honoured to know you and hope we will cross our paths again in the near future.

also, the initial announce of the Richard Stallman GNU project, of which we celebrate the anniversary today.

We are prepared to plan many roads in our territory in collaboration with the municipality of Fabriano, which appreciated our project so much that now the Free Software has its own specific assessorato (an executive and local authority) within the city council.
